Phyllis Mildred Jolly, born on September 24, 1915 in Robson BC, passed away peacefully at Columbia View Lodge in Trail BC on March 13, 2016.

She was the youngest of six children born to Frank & Jessie Oborne, 1908 pioneers of Robson BC, and the sister of Irving, Wilber, Gilbert, Lloyd & Ross. Phyllis married Alan Jolly, from Lancaster England, on January 1, 1939; they enjoyed the outdoors in the early years of their marriage and had five children together, Clifford (Rosalind), Arlene (Ken), Eileen (Micheal), Clayton (Annette) & Chris (Judi). Phyllis was widowed in 1949 and continued to successfully raise the children on her own by leading a hard-working and self-sustaining lifestyle. Phyllis was predeceased by her son-in-law Michael Babaeff & grandson Gordon Babaeff.

When Phyllis’ children were old enough to live on their own, she spent many years moving around the province to care for others and cook in logging and fishing camps. Phyllis was a proud “Gramma” of 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren who she enjoyed singing and dancing with. In 1984 she settled in Richmond, BC to care for a sick relative and then returned to Castlegar in 2004 to be closer to her family.

On September 24, 2015 Phyllis celebrated her 100th birthday in style with her many family members in attendance. Phyllis received exceptional care in Columbia Lodge in Trail for the last two years of her life and will be remembered by many for her sharp wit and friendly demeanor.

A Celebration of Life and reception will be held at the Castlegar Legion 11:00 am - 2:00 pm Sunday May 22, 2016.

In lieu of flowers, Phyllis has requested that donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
