Raymond Richardson Lyon slept comfortably as he left this world at age 87 on September 28, 2016, with his family by his side in Trail, B.C

It was in Trail that Ray grew up, the son of Lil and Andy Lyon, the brother of Pat and Nan Lyon. He courted and then married Beth Millar of Trail on September 22, 1948 with whom he went on to raise 3 children: Terry Perrin (Perry), Raymond Lyon Jr. (Jan), and Shelley Lyon.

Ray was the close, loving and protective patriarch to a family that grew to include: 5 grandchildren - Zoe, Spencer, Stacie, Trevor and Jesse, and 4 great grandchildren - Jessica, Cash, Sailor and Elvis.

Ray’s life included countless friendships, the enjoyment of many sports and business ventures, as well as numerous travels around the world with Beth. It was a full and happy life.

Two traits that stood out in Ray’s huge personality were his chivalry and his generosity. The polite and courteous nature that originally drew Beth to his side remained with him throughout life. Putting others before himself, he was constantly giving rides, cash, and home-cooked meals to strangers, young travelers, friends and family alike. This kindness came very naturally to Ray, without him ever demanding or preaching that others should do the same.

Some of Ray’s last conversation included him saying, “I am going to go back to sleep now to think about my wonderful, wonderful family.”

At Ray’s request, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations to your local homeless shelter or food bank will be gratefully appreciated.
