Former Rossland resident Robert Melvin Glover passed away Feb. 29, 2012 in Vernon, B.C. after losing his courageous battle with cancer. He was 82.

Born in Rossland on Dec. 26, 1929, Bob remained there until September 2011 before moving to Vernon, B.C.

Bob worked with the Ministry of Highways for forty years, retiring in 1984. He was very active in the community and some of the organizations he was involved with over the years were: Jobs Daughters (Past Associate Guardian), Orwell Derby for 20 years, Oddfellows and Masonic Lodges, Royal Canadian Legion, Rossland Trail Golf Club, Ben Shaw X-Country Ski Club, member of B.C. Retired Employees Association, Rossland Volunteer Fire Dept. for 20 years and delivering Meals on Wheels. Bob was also a member of the St. Andrews United Church.

Fishing and hunting were a big part of Bob’s early years and after retirement he filled his days with golfing (at which he won several left handed tournaments), X-Country Skiing and got great enjoyment and pleasure from his many woodworking projects. His generosity of time and knowledge when helping friends and neighbours was just one of his many attributes, and being able to fix anything was something we came to expect from him.

Bob’s strong love and commitment to his family was exceptional, being proud of his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and all of their accomplishments and successes, making each and every one believe they were his number one. He had a great sense of humor and loved to see people laugh and be happy, usually with one of his fast spoken jokes, a wink of an eye or one of his famous light up the room grins.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Georgina, son Brian (Candace) Glover, daughter Donna (Lawrence) MacAulay, grandchildren, Jennifer (Ken), Jeff (Lindsey), Aaron (Megan), Alisha (Tyler) and Andrea. Great-grandchildren include Makayla, Emily, Noah, and Madelyn. Also special to him were his Godchildren Leonard (Sharon) Toupin and Carol (Chris) Haynes. He will be remembered by his sister, Dorothy (Gordon) Lloyd, brothers, Harry, Jack (Alice), Don (Doris) and numerous nieces, nephews and their families.

Bob was predeceased by his parents, sister, Irene and brothers Phil and Bill.

Celebration of Life will be held at St. Andrews United Church in Rossland B.C. on Friday March 30th at 1:00 p.m.

In Bob’s memory donations can be made to: B.C. Cancer Foundation
