September 2, 2022
In loving memory ~
The family is both devastated and shocked by the unexpected passing of Ron (79) on September 2, 2022 at home from a heart attack.
Ron had a great passion for sports which led to the purchase of Glenmerry Bowl in February 1974. He just recently retired 49 years later on June 1, 2022. Anyone who met Ron experienced his big heart, giving nature and his undeniable kindness.
His devotion to the sport of bowling became infectious. He was a tournament All Star bowler who became known to the bowling federation as "Big Daddy". Numerous times when entering a bowling centre, he would hear, "Big Daddy's in the house"! He was legendary across Canada and those who knew him will have their own stories to tell.
The highlight of Ron's bowling career is when he represented Canada in 1980 at the Small Ball World Championship in Manila, Philippines. There he won a silver medal in the singles and final Small Ball event combined which included 5 Pin, Candlepin, Duckpin and Tenpin.
Ron was inducted into the Trail Home of Champions in 2003 not only for his bowling accomplishments but for his ongoing commitment to the community. His name is displayed on the Home of Champions Monument.
Ron was a lifelong Boston Red Sox and Detroit Red Wings fan. He was fortunate to have witnessed the Red Sox win 4 World Series and the Red Wings win the Stanley Cup 4 times.
He is predeceased by his mom Ellen in 1983, his dad Peter in 1987, daughter Alaina in 2015 and mother-in-law Alyce in 2018. He leaves behind his loving wife Caryl after 47 years of a "fairy tale romance". They were the wind beneath each other's wings! He also leaves behind his sons Sean (Hayley) and Ryan (Michelle), daughters Cindy (Ryan) and Michelle, his brother Barry (Nancy), his precious grandchildren; Samantha, Adam, Jarod, Tyler, Danielle, Czarina, Alexander and Boston, great-grandson Harrison, father-in-law Andy and brother-in-law Rory (Sharon).
He was a devoted Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Brother, and Friend and will be greatly missed by the vast number of lives he touched.
His engaging personality, legendary achievements and memories will live on forever.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Kole Roth of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services™ has been entrusted with arrangements.
You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence at the family's online register at www.myalternatives.ca.
