On December 31, 2016, with his daughters by his side, Sam Anselmo slipped away peacefully to rejoin his wife Anne, who passed away 5 months earlier. It was just short of his 89th birthday.
Born in Vancouver in 1928, Sam spent his life in the Trail area. He was proud of the Warfield family home he built in 1958 and remained there throughout his life.
His family was very important to him. He is survived by his three children, Terri (Bill) Taylor; Sue (Steve) Lessard; and Dan (Rita) Anselmo; his nine grandchildren Meghan (Rich); Kevin; Kristie (Jamie); Amanda (Joel); Paul; Bryan; Jeff; Laura and Brad and his 8 great-grandchildren, along with his sister Mary (Len) Connell, sister-in-law Joy Pobihushchy, brothers-in-law John (Carol) Bukovec and Alan Bukovec (Ev) and many nieces and nephews.
Sam was a Machinist/Planner at Cominco for 39 years and he spent numerous years as a volunteer fireman in Warfield. From an early age, Sam’s many sports kept him occupied. He enjoyed track and field, hockey, basketball and baseball in his early years; golfing and curling were a passion in his later years. He was always a faithful follower of the Trail Smoke Eaters. Sam and his wife Anne also enjoyed their special camping spot overlooking Kootenay Lake for 15 years.
Sam was very proud of his Trail roots and loved engaging with his many friends, especially his Colombo Lodge poker group of 40 plus years.
Special thanks to the Home Care Nursing team who took such good care of Sam for several years; the staff at Columbia View Lodge during his stay for the last couple of months and the staff on 2nd floor of the KBRH. Their expertise, professionalism and care ensured Sam was well looked after and comfortable in his final days.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, January 9, 2017 at 10:30 am at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish with Father Bart van Roijen, Celebrant. Bill Clark of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services™ has been entrusted with arrangements.
As an expression of sympathy, donations in Sam’s name may be made to the Kiro Wellness Centre (Home Health Services) at 1500 Columbia Ave, Trail, BC, V1R 1J9 or to the KBRH Health Foundation (Columbia View Lodge) at 1200 Hospital Bench, Trail, BC, V1R 4M1 or online at www.kbrhhealthfoundation.ca.
You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence at the family’s online register at www.myalternatives.ca.
