May 23, 2019
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sydney Crockett. He passed on May 23 at the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital with family and friends by his side. Born in Trail in 1941 and a resident of the area for most of his life, Syd called Genelle home. He enjoyed being involved in his community and making it a better place. Over the years he was active in numerous boards in Genelle including the TV Board, the Water Board, and the Genelle Recreation Commission.
In his youth and young adulthood he enjoyed playing softball in the G.R.O.W league. When he retired he took up golfing with the seniors. He was also a member of the Trail Kiwanis for a number of years. In the 1980`s and early 1990`s he was involved in politics and never lost interest in it.
He took his apprenticeship at Cominco where he worked as a pipe-fitter. He retired in January 2000 after 36 years of service. Some of the many things Syd enjoyed were spending time with friends in Hawaii, having barbecues by the pool, watching sports on TV, and keeping in close contact with all his family. Syd looked forward to Christmas shopping with his daughter Dianna. It usually turned out that Dianna did the shopping while Syd took the opportunity to do some holiday visiting. He loved his family and on Christmas day, before opening a single gift, he phoned everyone to wish them a Merry Christmas.
As it was his nature, he was always willing to help friends and family. If you needed a hand, and there was a way he could help he would. He also loved to chat and could strike up a conversation with friends and strangers alike.
He is survived by Marianne, his wife of 53 years, his daughter Dianna (Lorne), and siblings Walter, Irene, Doreen and Lee. He was predeceased by his parents Kathleen (Kay) and Harrison (Harry) Crockett, sisters Kathy, Hazel and brother Rod.
We would like to thank all of the doctors, nurses and staff who provided care and support during Syd`s extended hospital stay. In accordance with Syd's wishes, there will be no service. Bill Clark of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services has been entrusted with arrangements.
