It is with deep regret that the family announces the sudden passing of their husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Ted, on Thursday, January 27, 2011.

Ted was born in Rosthern, Saskatchewan to Erhard and Margareta Schroeder. He moved to Trail in 1947 where he worked at Cominco for 40 years. He married Joyce McCluskey in 1953 and they moved to Warfield in 1956. They purchased a home at Christina Lake and used it as a summer retreat until his retirement in 1987. Following his retirement they moved full-time to the lake. Two and a half years ago they moved into their beautiful retirement home in Grand Forks.

Ted was a volunteer fireman with the Warfield Fire Department for 25 years. As a member of the Christina Lake Golf Club he participated for years as the Club Captain for the Christina Lake Retirees and spent a term as a Director on the Board of Directors. He spent many hours at the course and thoroughly enjoyed his golf. The Masonic Lodge was a huge part of his life. Ted was Past Master of Corinthian Lodge #27 and Past District Deputy. It was not unusual for him to attend more than one meeting a week visiting Lodges in Trail, Rossland, Grand Forks, Greenwood, Salmo or Kettle Falls. For many years Ted attended the Grand Lodge of B.C. Annual General Meeting. He was a long time member of the Trail and Grand Forks curling clubs. Jewel Lake fishing was a past time he revelled in – always in competition with friends and other members of the family on who caught the first and the largest fish!

Ted is survived by his best friend (wife of 58 years) Joyce: three sons, David in Smithers, Ron (Katherine) in Grand Forks and Ken (Rosalie) in Warfield; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three sisters; Nettie, Dorothy and Helen and sister and brother-in-law Shannon and Mark Cross plus many nieces and nephews. Ted was predeceased by his parents and a brother-in-law, Alan McCluskey.

He will be missed.

A service will be held at the Christina Lake Community Hall on Thursday, February 3, 2011 at 1:00 PM. Reverend Simon Shenstone officiating. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Masonic Cancer Car, the Canadian Cancer Society (Breast Cancer Research) or a charity of your choice. Grand Forks Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
