Newton: Thomas, age 91, of Rossland, BC, passed away May 28th 2011 in the Poplar Ridge Pavilion, Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital.

He is survived by his daughter; Pat Hay of Hamilton, ON, sons; Rob Newton of Peachland, BC and Rod Newton of Rossland, BC and their families, and his sister; Dorothy Jost and family of Regina SK. Tom was predeceased by his wife Elsie, daughter; Joan Davies and grandsons; Brad Newton and Mark Newton.

He was born in Bootle (Cumberland) England, and proudly served in the 18th Anti Tank Battery, Royal Canadian Army CASF in World War II. Tom was a long time employee of Cominco, and enjoyed his retirement years as an avid sports fan.

As per Tom’s wishes, there will be no funeral, and cremation has taken place. A family memorial will take place at a later date. Bill Clark with Personal Alternative Funeral Services “Carberry’s Chapel” has been entrusted with arrangements.

Tom will be missed by his many friends where he resided at the Golden City Manor in Rossland. The family would like to thank the staff of the 3rd floor of the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital and the staff of the Poplar Ridge Care Home as well as Dr. Zhang and Dr. Jenkins for their excellent care.
