In loving memory ~
It is with deep heartache that we announce the passing of Tony (Antonio) De Luca, our beloved husband, father, nonno, brother, father in law, brother in law, uncle and friend. He did "not go gentle into that good night" but bravely fought a two and a half year battle against glioblastoma.
A kind and gentle soul, Tony will be remembered for his ability to problem solve, his patience, and his compassion. He will be sorely missed.
He leaves behind a large close family; his immediate family left to mourn is his wife of 48 years Roberta, his son Christopher (Lindsay), daughter Adrienne (Jon) and grandchildren Lila and Linden.
Born in Italy in 1952, he immigrated to Canada as a child. Following a happy childhood in Vancouver, he became a teacher and eventually made his way to Trail. For thirty one years he fulfilled his dream in the classroom, teaching everything from Kindergarten to grade 12. In addition to teaching, his varied interests included fishing, tennis, then later pickleball, hiking, gardening, bird watching, skiing, golfing (two holes in one!) and hanging out at Christina Lake. His greatest passion however, was family; this was his lifeblood.
We have immense gratitude for the medical care Tony received during his period of illness. From the oncologists, to the GPs, to the nurses and care aids, he was treated with respect and dignity. He was always in control and directed his own path.
For those of you who wish to express sympathy, you can donate to the KBRH Health Foundation or you could simply watch and appreciate your backyard birds which held for him much fascination and enjoyment.
Ali Butts of Clark's Funeral Services has been entrusted with arrangements. Cremation has taken place and we are planning a celebration of life in early July which will be open to all our family, friends and neighbors from whom we have received so much love and support.
