WINIFRED EVA RAE, age 95, of Trail, BC passed away on Friday, November 18, 2016 at the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital following a brief illness.

Win was born September 21, 1921 in Bonnington, BC to William and Elsie (Chapman) Ridge. Win grew up in Bonnington and South Slocan then later attended business college in Nelson, BC. Win was employed by Wood Vallance and Beaty Bros. before enlisting in the Canadian Women’s Army Corps., working as a stenographer and was stationed in Victoria and the United Kingdom, during World War II.

After being discharged from the C.W.A.C., Win worked for the Consolidated Mining & Smelting Co./Cominco in purchasing in Trail.

Win married Alec Rae and together they moved to Vancouver and were both employed by the Nabob Company. Following Alec’s sudden death, Win returned to Trail and resumed work with Cominco as a secretary in the Engineering Dept. She remained a dedicated employee for 28 years before her retirement. Win enjoyed travelling the globe in her retirement years.

Win is survived by her two sisters-in-law; Betty Ridge and Merla Ridge of Nelson and by 15 nieces and nephews. Win was predeceased by her husband Alec Rae, her parents, her brothers; Doug (Nell), Jess, Elmore (Carol) and Harold Ridge, and her sisters; Bertha (Joe) Rees and Florence (Louis) Secco.

A Memorial Service for Win will be held at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church (1347 Pine Ave, Trail) on Wednesday, November 30 at 2:00 pm with Canon Neil Elliot officiating.
