I would like to extend a word of appreciation to Louise McEwan for her recent article about the ordination of women in the Catholic church, (“The symbol of discontent,” Trail Times Oct. 28) especially in light of the unfortunate letter in response to it, which was printed in the Nov. 2 paper.
As the article implied, and as the emotional tone of the letter suggested, this is a very contentious issue in present-day Roman Catholicism.
In my opinion, the article was both courageous and insightful, and I hope that the discussions it will undoubtedly provoke will be a positive step towards a more enlightened approach to this issue within the Catholic church.
