I would like to thank you for such a moving tribute to my grandfather, Dick Kowcinak, the last surviving member of the 1939 Trail Smoke Eaters World Championship Hockey Team. He spoke fondly of his hockey days in Trail.
Please note two corrections to the story you ran: he was 94 years old (young!) when he passed away last week and he quietly passed away in his sleep at St. Joseph’s Hospice in Sarnia, Ontario after a battle with cancer.
