No despair from Fruitvale mayor

I was really surprised when people spoke to me about my despair leaving as Fruitvale Mayor, as I am really ready to move on.

I was really surprised when people spoke to me about my despair leaving as Fruitvale Mayor, as I am really ready to move on, and have confidence in the incoming Council. Looking at Brian’s write-up, (Departing Mayor Libby Nelson leaves lasting legacy, Trail Times Nov. 16) I realize it must have been my Australian accent... I’m pretty sure the “times of despair” should read “time to spare” and I intend to enjoy it!

On another matter:  I was really disappointed to read John Hudak’s comments about Trail School trustees (Letters to the Editor, Trail Times Nov. 15). I’ve always admired John as a principled gentlemen, but feel his comments were a back-handed slap at Lorraine Manning. To be open about it, Lorraine is my best friend and we met on the School Board, but no-one could have worked harder or done more for our children – including efforts to reduce the number of trustees! It’s a shame that the behind-the-scenes work, and/or failure of trustees to attend and participate, does not get proper recognition.

Although Lorraine was “chastised” by other trustees for not taking on the usual committee positions this last year – she has been fully involved time-wise in her labour relations meetings with both teachers and CUPE workers.  And I am also aware she spends a lot of time at other committee and School District meetings. Trail voters could do no better than to re-elect Lorraine Manning.
