Realignment makes MPs more accessible

"The people spoke and the commission did listen... The new ridings are now far more manageable to serve everyone."

I would like to respond to Timothy Schafer’s article on electoral boundaries realignment (Electoral boundaries realignment released, Trail Times Feb. 1).

The people spoke and the commission did listen. The riding is currently nine hours drive in length and is not made up of just those of us in the West Kootenay.

The new ridings are now far more manageable to serve everyone.

The people from Manning Park, Princeton, Hedley, Oliver and Osoyoos will now have much better access to their MP.

The old riding has been condensed by an hour drive on the East and three hours drive on the West.

The next MP will be far more accessible to everyone.

To those in the West Kootenay who believe we have lost something; I see the contrary.

We will now have two MPs serving the area, not just one. Just imagine one MP in Castlegar and the other in Trail.

If you think our current MP is doing a great job, just imagine what two MPs can do for the area?
