‘Stop the Hate’ message deserved coverage

I was so proud of the YCDC kids who put themselves out there and gave their Saturday afternoon for the Flashmob message of “Stop the Hate” for May 17 Anti-Homophobic Day.

It was moving to see, and I waited for the pics, and waited, only to finally find one, buried in the West Kootenay Advertiser, with the uncatchy heading “Mall Mob.”

I thought Jim Bailey was now on staff with you, but maybe I should give you the benefit of the doubt.

What a powerful message you could have carried forward from those kids! No matter what one’s individual beliefs might be, surely we can all agree: every human being has the right to be free from hate and harassment.

The stats and consequence - in teen suicide rates alone - are horrible. Let’s all be alert and aware, and speak up for human dignity!
