The 35th Trail Retirees Bonspiel was an unmitigated success with 30 teams competing in the cash ‘spiel at the Trail Curling Club on the weekend. Dan Horan and Mel Johnson, along with Tom Hall, played a big part in organizing the event. The bonspiel was divided into five different sections and when the last rock settled the following teams emerged on top: Section 1, the John Phillips rink from Castlegar placed first, with Jim Albo of Rossland coming second. Section 2, the Ed Wilcox rink from Fruitvale curled to top spot, edging out Trail’s Harvey Handley rink. The Dick McLeod foursome from Castlegar won Section 3, with Bruce Noble of Trail taking second. Section 4, Beaver Valley’s Mark Cross team claimed first while Dale Moody from B.V. was second, and in Section 5, Alvin Caron of Trail secured first, while Nelson’s Garry Meadows took home second place prize money.
