The West Kootenay Diamondbacks won five of six this week in American Legion AA play to keep a firm grip on top spot in the Federal Division.
The Dbacks crushed North West Christian 21-1 Sunday with Austin Tambellini getting the win to push its record to 16-2, one game up on Colville AA, with the Dbacks enjoying two games in hand.
Sean Barta got the start in the second game also getting the victory in a 10-8 win in the second half of the doubleheader.
In Saturday’s games, Scott Davidson threw a two-hitter to lead the Dbacks to a 2-0 victory over AA Rogers, but the Spokane team would come back and take the second match 9-8 despite being out-hit by West Kootenay.
The Dbacks have gone 9-1 in their past 10 matches, that included a 11-6 and 17-4 drubbings over Rogers Thursday that saw Tanner Johnson smack a grand-slam home run.
WKD played its final two games of the season Monday afternoon, needing just one win to secure the division title and a berth into the playoff, however, scores were unavailable at press time.
