The West Kootenay Single-A Phillies dropped a pair of close games to East Valley on Friday.
The home Spokane team led 6-5 heading into the sixth inning of the opening game of the double bill, and scored three more to take a 9-5 lead. But the Phillies rallied in the seventh, as Brenan Makay singled and would eventually score to cut the lead to 9-6. With two men on and the tying run at the plate, a deep fly ball to centre field would be caught to end the rally. Derek Green went 3-for-4 at the plate including a double for the Phillies.
In game two of the doubleheader the Phillies led the game 4-3 going into the seventh, however East Valley scored twice in the final inning to eke out a 5-4 victory. Matt Snary went 2-for-4 for the Phillies, while Colton Miracle threw five strong innings giving up three runs on three hits, while striking out eight.
The Phillies next games go Saturday at Butler Park with a doubleheader against Universtiy A2, at 1 and 3 p.m.
