American Legion: West Kootenay Diamondbacks split double bill

The West Kootenay Diamondbacks suffered their first loss of the season in American Legion AA play on Sunday

The West Kootenay Diamondbacks suffered their first loss of the season in American Legion AA play on Sunday, but managed a split in a doubleheader against Medical Lake.

The Dbacks were forced to skip its double bill at home at Butler Park on Sunday when the Medical Lake team cancelled due to issues with crossing the border. The Dbacks instead travelled to Medical Lake to take on the West Spokane team for yet another road game.

The Diamondbacks came through in the first match with Tanner Johnson picking up an 8-5 win, however, Medical Lake bounced back in the second game with a 7-2 victory over the Dbacks.

The Diamondbacks cling to first place in Federal Division play, a game ahead of Colville, and two games up on Medical Lake.

With 10 games remaining on the schedule, the 7-1 Dbacks look to make the American Legion Playoffs as one of the top two teams from the Federal division that move on to play against the top two from the American division, and the top four from the National.

The Diamondbacks are scheduled to host Northwest Christian High School in a doubleheader at Butler Park today with games at 3 and 5 p.m., weather permitting.
