Adam Svensson drills his tee shot into the blue yonder on the first hole of the Rossland-Trail Country Club on Wednesday. The Surrey golfer holds a four-stroke lead after two days of the B.C. Junior boys golf championship.

Surrey golfing sensation Adam Svensson has begun to pull away from the pack after two rounds of the B.C. Junior Boys’ golf championship at the Rossland-Trail Golf and Country Club.

Svensson carded a four-under par 68 to move him to nine-under par and a four-stroke lead on Kevin Kwon of Pitt Meadows halfway through the 72-hole championship.

The defending junior champion fired five birdies and an eagle, notching identical nine-hole scores of 34 on sweltering Wednesday afternoon.

Kwon, who shot a 67 on the opening day, fired an even-par 72 to remain at five-under.  Curtis Chan of Richmond, who posted a 70 on Wednesday, and Khaled Attieh of Delta, are tied for third at two-under par, the only other golfers in red numbers.

Following Wednesday’s round, the 36-hole cut kept the low 70 scores plus ties in the competition for the final two days.

Rossland’s Kevin Bennett chalked up his second consecutive round of 77 thanks to a birdie on the 18th hole, to sit at five-over par and tied for 57th with Rossland-Trail golfer Brennan Moroney.

Moroney opened with a double-bogey but had two birdies on his final five holes to finish with a 78.

Christina Lake’s Tanner Kopan bounced back from an 80 on Day 1 to card a three-over par 75 on Wednesday to sit at 11-over par, just under the cut line in 70th spot.

Garrett Underwood of Fruitvale posted a sensational 75 on Wednesday but his opening round of 83 proved to be his undoing. Alex Rugg of Montrose posted an 81 on Wednesday; one shot more than his 80 on Tuesday to finish at 17-over par.

Rossland’s Tyler McKay fired an 84 to follow up on his 82 from Round 1 and was 22-over after two days. Braden McKay also posted respectable rounds of 82 and 84 but came up short of the cut line.

The conclusion of the second round also signalled the end of the zone team and club competition.

The zone team features the four best scores from each team. Zone 1 West, which represents the West Kootenay, finished sixth among eight zones.

Zone 4, out of the Surrey region and led by Svensson’s fine play, took the team title.

The club championship, featuring two players from eligible club, saw the Swan-e-set Bay Resort team of Kwon and Oscar Baek win the club title. The Champion Lakes duo finished 28th and RTCC was 30th out of 31 club teams.
