B.V. Skating Club, sensational showing at Regionals

The Beaver Valley Skating Club was in top form when it competed at the Kootenay Regional Skating Championships in Creston earlier this month.

Over 150 skaters ages eight-to-18 participated in the event held at the Creston Rec Centre, and for Beaver Valley skaters it proved an unqualified success, taking home 28 medals and ribbons.

Results: Yvonne Gregory earned the silver medal for Star 10 Freeskate, and bronze medals for Star 9 short program and Star 10 Solo Dance. Yvonne also won the Region Senior Artistic Award.

Claire Sibbald is Region Champion for Pre-Novice Ladies and bronze medalist for Gold Solo Dance. Claire also competed earlier in the season for Pre-Novice Ladies at the Super Series Autumn Leaves in Kamloops and BC/YK Section Championships in Coquitlam for Pre-Novice Ladies.

Brenna Paulsen claimed Region Champion for Star 9 short program, Star 10 Freeskate and Gold Solo Dance and silver medalist for Gold Interpretive.

Brian Chan is the Region Champion for Star 5 Men’s Freeskate, Gold Interpretive and Gold Men’s Solo Dance.

Bree Fitzpatrick was crowned the Region Champion for Star 5 Elements, bronze medalist for Star 4 Over 13 Freeskate and silver medalist for Star 8/9 solo dance.

Annelise Morrison won a bronze medal for Star 5 U13 Freeskate.

Nathan Kreuzer received two bronze ribbons for Star 3 boys and Star 3 elements.

Isabella Louwe placed sixth for Star 4 girls and fifth for Star 4 Elements.

Payton Fowler received a silver ribbon for Star 3 Girls and a bronze for Star 3 Elements.

Jocelyn Derksen claimed a silver ribbon for Star 3 Girls and a bronze for Star 3 Elements.

Sophie Louwe took home a silver ribbon for Star 3 Girls and a bronze ribbon for Star 3 elements.

Amaya Needham won gold ribbon for Star 2 Elements and a bronze for Star 1 girls and Star 2/3 solo dance.

Yvonne, Claire, Brian, Brenna, Bree, Nathan and Annelise will represent the Beaver Valley Skating Club at the BC/Yukon Super Series Final this weekend in Kelowna.

The Club would like to thank their two Starskate coaches Lis Iannone and Janet O’Neill for working so hard to get all the skaters ready for these competitions.
