Trail’s Jason Bay hit his 200th career homer as the banged-up New York Mets rallied past the San Diego Padres 9-8 on Monday night.

Facing starting pitcher Tim Stauffer in the second inning Bay launched his ninth home run of the season over the Citi Field left-field wall. He now has seven homers in his last 39 games compared to only eight in his previous 142 matches.

Bay has struggled this season at times but has caught fire in the last week, hitting .444, with eight hits, four RBI, six runs scored, a double and two home runs.

He is the third Canadian-born player to achieve the 200 home-run milestone, joining Larry Walker (383) of Maple Ridge and New Brunswick’s Matt Stairs (265).
