Bay still not cleared to play

While the New York Mets struggle through the start of the 2011 baseball season, Jason Bay can only sit and watch.

Sandy Alderson, the Mets general manager, told reporters on Tuesday that the Trail native probably won’t be back in the lineup before April 26, another two weeks.

Bay suffered a rib injury on the second-to-last day of spring training and has yet to see action in the regular season.

The New York general manager admitted it was tough to predict when those types of injuries will heal.

“These injuries are hard to predict,” Alderson said on the Mets’ website.

Bay hasn’t played a regular season game since last July when he suffered a concussion.

The Mets are considering having Bay play in a minor league rehab game before rejoining the team.
