The Beaver Valley Chito Ryu karate club held its year end awards on Thursday at the Fruitvale Hall.
The young karate practitioners performed well at competitions throughout the year, taking home hardware at the regional and provincial level.
Sensai Scott Hutcheson awarded the honor sword, an authentic Samurai Katana, for hard work and dedication to Macy Verigin. The 10-year-old Fruitvale native won bronze at the provincial championships last month after taking two gold in kata and long weapons kata at the regional competition in Kelowna last March.
Sensai Hutcheson also presented a special bonzai tree to Meagan Campsall, the student who best exemplified all the traits of Karate both in the Dojo and at competitions.
Campsall recently won a silver medal in the team kata competition with Verigin and Tyson Nelson at the the Kelowna Friendship Karate tournament.
“These two were recognized by their peers as the best this year and actually proved it both in and out of the Dojo,” said Hutcheson.
Also in a Dojo skills competition Campsall was awarded the best punch and Nelson wowed everyone with the best kick as voted by their peers.
