The Kootenay South Youth Soccer Association’s U14 Select soccer team returned from the coast earlier this month after a good showing at the provincials in Aldergrove.
The U14 Big Horns faced stiff competition in its opening match against Langley, and suffered a narrow 3-2 defeat despite having two goals taken away on close offside calls. The team bounced back in its next match, topping Prince George 3-1 Friday, and following that with a big 4-1 win over Prospect Lake-Victoria on Saturday.
A win against Langley would have put the Bighorns in the final, but instead they settled for the bronze medal game against Penticton.
In a tight contest, the Bighorns dominated but couldn’t capitalize on its scoring chances, while Penticton converted chances into goals at every opportunity, beating the Kootenay team 3-1.
