Classic hockey game scores big for KidSport

The Boxing Day Classic has been an annual event for over 10 years and a perfect time for giving to local charities like KidSport.

The Boxing Day Classic has been an annual event for over 10 years and a perfect time for giving to local charities.

About 80 local players descend on the Rossland Arena to play hockey every Boxing Day and according to Gord Aiken, “I think for most of us, this is one of the few times a year (if not the only time) that everyone is in town and can get together to have some fun. A major bonus is the opportunity to contribute to charity while having a great time and supporting KidSport fits right in with what we do.”

The event has raised over $20,000  over the years, most in the past couple of years with the help of Barrett Jackman.

In addition to the donation to KidSport, the organizers initiated an annual scholarship of $500 for both RSS and Crowe in 2012. The Boxing Day Classic produces a lot of positive outcomes for a gang of friends that just ‘wanna play hockey.
