It was a retro-themed weekend at Beaver Valley Curling Rink, as the women’s bonspiel celebrated the rink’s 50th season with a salute to the 50s.

Eighteen teams from around the West Kootenay dressed up in their finest sweaters and bobby socks for the dinner and dance Saturday, before returning to the ice Sunday for a push to the finals.

Once the last rock settled it was the  Desiree Borsato rink with Brittany and Leanne Palmer, and Courtney Schmidt taking the A final for the second year in a row with a victory over the Sherry Duncan rink.

Duncan, with third Tami Collins, second Brenda Kozler, and lead Brittney Taylor, jumped out to an early 3-2 lead after three ends, but a pair in the fourth, then steals of two and three in the fifth and sixth, clinched it for the Borsato foursome.

The Coutenay Jones rink won the B final, while the C winner was the Kelly May team, and the Bev Bignell rink won a close match in the D final over the Beauchamp foursome.
