East meets west in bocce tourney

The annual Kootenay Bocce Tournament rolled into action Sunday at the West Trail Bocce Facility.

Fourteen two-person teams from the East and West Kootenay competed in the annual tournament.

When the last bocce was thrown, Morris Paron and Alfonso Bertoia from Cranbrook beat out Guiseppe Bertuzzi and Hans Barth for the ‘A’ event title.

The duo of Mario Favaro and Eugenio Mulato from Trail placed third in the ‘A’ over Guissepe  Sacino and Luigi Botti from Cranbrook.

In the ‘B’ event, Vito Tumillo and Rocco Mastrobuono from Nelson won over Guido Babuin and Tony Veltri from Trail.

Sergio Peloso and Don Brandt took third with a win over Bruno DeRosa and Leo Ganzini.

All teams competed for a chance to get their names engraved on the coveted “Italico Trophy.”

Everyone enjoyed an Italian luncheon from the Colander Restaurant, with winners receiving gift certificates from Safeway.
