Fernie ends Beaver Valley win streak in weekend split

The Beaver Valley Nitehawks' six game winning streak is over, after the Fernie Ghostriders delivered a 7-1 shellacking on Saturday.

The Beaver Valley Nitehawks had their six game winning streak snapped with authority by the Fernie Ghostriders on Saturday.

The Nitehawks beat the Ghostriders 5-3 at home Friday to extend their winning streak to six, but the Ghostriders responded with a convincing 7-1 win in Fernie.

After a scoreless first period, the Fernie Ghostriders erupted for six straight goals on their way to the 7-1 victory. Thanks to a hat trick from Ben Primeau and a 30 save performance from Pierce Dushenko, the Ghostriders took a 3-0 second period lead, and made it 6-0 before the Hawks’ Michael Bell broke Dushenko’s shut out bid at 9:34 of the third period.

On Friday, Dallas Calvin had a huge four-point night, netting the hat trick and an assist in a comeback win for the Hawks.

Dan Holland netted the winner when he converted a pass from Connor Brown-Maloski to make it 4-3 midway through the third frame.

.After taking a 1-0 lead on a Taylor Stafford goal in the first, the Riders stormed back with three goals in the second to lead 3-2 going into the third.

But Calvin tied it at 11:26 of the third as he sniped a shot past Ghostrider goalie Chris Solecki.

Calvin rounded out the scoring with his hat trick on the power play at 3:34 while Brown-Maloski picked up three assists on the night. Travis Beekhuizen got the win between the pipes stopping 28 of 31 shots for the Nitehawks.
