Fun race, huge success

Trail Parks and Recreation lined up an impressive field of athletes for the second annual Kids Triathlon Saturday.

The event welcomed 65 competitors to the Trail Aquatic and Leisure Centre as they swam, biked and ran their way to the finish line.

“There were lots of smiles and kids had a fantastic experience in a race situation,” said Trail Parks and Rec coordinator Lisa Manaigre.

The participants raced in their own age category and this year competitors ranged from four- to 12-years old. And with lots of help from parents and volunteers, it turned into a big success.

“We kept it very non-competitive; we just wanted the kids to experience each activity and to cross the finish line knowing they achieved something great,” she added.

The racers all received a participation medal to show that in this race everyone’s a winner.

“Great job to all the kids involved; you finished a tough course – congratulations,” said Manaigre.

“We hope to see everyone again next year.”
