Golf course set to open Saturday

It looks like Mother Nature is a golf fan after all.

The Rossland-Trail Country Club was planning to have its driving range open today and the full 18-hole course ready to play by April 1.

But Mother Nature’s recent drying trend has the staff at the RTCC ready to send golfers out on to the course this Saturday.

“Greg (head greens keeper Kennedy) took a couple of tours around Wednesday afternoon and said, ‘It’s ready,’” said RTCC head professional Jeff Papilion.

He added the course is dry enough that golf carts may be allowed out.

“That’ll be a day-to-day decision but it looks hopeful.”

Papilion said the course wintered very well. So well in fact, that no temporary greens or tee boxes will be used.

“All greens and tee boxes are ready. Everything drained really well. The frost is all out.”

The driving range saw some action on Thursday but is officially open today.
