Golf: Weir adds All Canadian to honours

Douglas College golfer Kate Weir added another honour to the PacWest title she won last week.

Douglas College golfer Kate Weir added another honour to the PacWest title she won last week.

Weir was named Canadian Colleges Athletic Association All-Canadian at the 2012 Ping CCAA golf national championship awards banquet, Tuesday.

It is the first All-Canadian awarded to golfers in the CCAA and Weir is one of three from the PacWest.

Weir also teed off in the CCAA national championship Wednesday, and finished up with a 13-over-par 85 to sit in eighth position.

She struggled on her first nine, which was the back nine at the Oshawa course.

The 22-year-old double-bogied the first hole, then followed that with a pair of bogies, two double-bogies and an Eagle en route to a nine-over 45.

The Rossland-Trail Country  Club member would steady herself on her final nine, carding a 40, after six pars, two bogies, and a double on the front nine.

Weir came from six strokes back to win the final round of the PacWest tour in Chilliwack by 10, so she is far from out of it.

PacWest runner up Jen Woods of UBC Okanagan sits in fourth spot after shooting a 7-over-par 79.

Katherine Gravel-Coursol from CEGEP Lionel-Groux in Quebec leads the field after firing a 1-under, 71.

The tournament is a three round stroke play match up and will finish up on Friday.
