Greater Trail Swim Club: Trail swimmers reap rewards in pool

11 Greater Trail Winter Swim Club swimmers brought back medals from the Kamloops June Classic Long Course swim meet on the weekend.

The Greater Trail Winter Swim Club continues to produce in the pool as 11 swimmers from the competitive division brought back medals from the Kamloops June Classic Long Course swim meet on the weekend.

Under-10 phenom Dylan Kormendy dominated the competition claiming gold medals in the 200-metre freestyle, 50-meter butterfly, 50-m. and 100 m. breastroke, and 200-m. Individual medley (IM).

U-12 swimmer Eden Kormendy captured gold in the 50-m. fly in a blistering 31.92 seconds defeating the runner-up by more than a full second. She also claimed gold in the 100-m. breastroke by a full three seconds over the second-place rival. Eden then nabbed silver in the 50-m. breast, 200-m. IM, 200 m. free, and 200 m. breast.

Trail’s Aby Elwood won silver in the U-12 girls 200 fly and bronze in 100 fly, while Sharman Thomas out-touched his opponent for a silver medal in the 50 meter backstroke.

Every swimmer took time off their personal best swims including Elwood who hammered off an impressive 17.40 seconds from her previous personal best in the 400-m. free,  Cyan Ross-Van Merlo knocked off 16.98 seconds off her 200 m. back, and Ian Markus trimmed 15.70 seconds from his 200 back.

GTSC coach Andrea Wyers was extremely pleased with the swimmers results and looks forward to the upcoming long course swim meets in Spokane and Vancouver.
