Homefield advantage turned out to be key for a Salmo golfer in the West Kootenay junior golf circuit on Saturday.

Homefield advantage turned out to be key for a Salmo golfer in the West Kootenay junior golf circuit on Saturday.

Riley Rollick from the Salmo Golf Club took full advantage of playing on his home course as he came away with a two-shot victory over Brenan Moroney of Birchbank and Aiden Browell of Champion Lake.

All the golfers struggled mightily with the small and often precipitous Salmo greens, but Rollick was still able to make three birdies on the day. He finished with a final score of 75 while both Moroney and Browell posted identical rounds of 77.

In other junior news, Tyler McKay represented the Zone well this past weekend as he finished 35th in the very strong field at the CN Pacific tournament in Courtney on Vancouver Island. Over 70 players from across Canada teed off in the event, including all of Canadas National Junior Team.

McKay was able to navigate the very long, 7000-yard Crown Island Course with rounds of 75, 78, 76.

Kevin Kwon from Swaneset Golf Club won the tournament with rounds of 66, 71, 66.

This coming weekend the Junior Circuit will be at Redstone on Saturday and Birchbank on Sunday.

These are great golf courses to play and organizers invite all kids to come out and try the junior circuit. Please email zone1juniorgolf@yahoo.ca if interested in playing.
