Juvenile rinks fall short of provincial playoffs

A pair of local rinks faced some tough competition at their respective B.C. curling championships in Lake Cowichan.

At the juvenile boys’ provincial championship, the Kelvin Harper rink from Trail, which includes Justin Umpherville, Harlen Young, Jonathan Mock and Donovan Mudie,  finished the round robin with a 1-2 record and missed out on the playoff round.

The team wrapped up the provincials with an 11-3 win over the Maxim Langlais rink from North Shore.

The curling season isn’t over for Harper, Umpherville, Young and Mudie. The foursome from J.L. Crowe Secondary will represent the zone at the B.C. high school  curling championships in Richmond beginning Thursday.

Meanwhile at the juvenile girls’ provincial championship, also hosted by Lake Cowichan, the Megan MacKay rink, which includes Kelly MacKay, Katelyn Horning and Emily Balfour, went winless in three round robin games.
