KIJHL: Beaver Valley Nitehawks drop two

Beaver Valley Nitehawks still looking for first win.

The Beaver Valley Nitehawks continue to work out the kinks in their lineup after two losses to Neil Murdoch division rivals this weekend.

The Hawks were humbled by the Nelson Leafs  8-0 Friday night, before dropping a close 2-1 game to the Spokane Braves on Saturday.

With just one goal on 62 shots over those two games, Beaver Valley has to be concerned about the lack of production. In five games they’ve been outscored 21-10, and their top point-getter is 16-year-old Ross Armour with two goals and two assists.

The Nitehawks jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal by Jace Weegar five minutes into the second period but the Braves tied it at 5:08 of the second and scored the winning goal less than two minutes into the third period to grab a share of the lead in the Neil Murdoch division with a 3-1-0-0 record. Beaver Valley currently finds itself in the basement and yet to register a win over five games at 0-3-1-1.

Carson Schamerhorn was good in net for the Hawks stopping 34 of 36 shots, but his counterpart Trevor Dilauro was just one save better stopping 35 of 36 shots for the Braves.

On Friday, the Leafs jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first, and were up 7-0 at the end of two periods, before dumping the Hawks 8-0.

Former Kootenay Major Midget Ice goalie Brett Soles earned the shutout stopping 26 shots, while Rayce Miller scored twice and added an assist, and 20-year-old veteran Robson Cramer had a four-point night with a goal and three assists.

Beaver Valley hits the road on Friday with games in Golden against the Eddie Mountain division leading Rockets and the winless Columbia Valley Rockies in Invermere on Saturday.
