KIJHL - Hawks back on track

The Beaver Valley Nitehawks halted a four game losing streak Sunday with a decisive 7-0 taming of the Creston Valley Thundercats.

The Beaver Valley Nitehawks halted a four game losing streak Sunday with a decisive 7-0 taming of the Creston Valley Thundercats at the Beaver Valley Arena.

After falling to the Cats in Creston on Friday 8-3, the Hawks were desperate to get back on track and restore some waning confidence.

Team captain Archie McKinnon scored the winning goal midway through the first period on a blast from the point, and goalie Zach Perehudoff was outstanding in net stopping all 36 shots for the shutout.

The Hawks would break it open in the second with Michael Bell starting it 21 seconds in as he made a power move to the net and tucked it under a sprawling Cats Tyler Moffat.

Three minutes later, Riley Brandt buried a short-handed effort to give the Hawks a 3-0 lead.

Dallas Calvin made it 4-0 on the power play and then set up Connor Brown-Maloski to carry a 5-0 lead heading into the third.

Luke Reimer netted the final two goals in the third to join Calvin and Brandt with three-point games, and Bell had his most lucrative match of the season scoring a goal and adding three assists.

The Hawks have a pair of road games on the weekend against Golden and Columbia Valley.
