The Nelson Killjoys are West Kootenay Roller Derby League champions.
The Killjoys defeated Salmo’s Babes of Bruitality in a spirited bout at Mountain Mayhem IV at the Rossland Arena on Sunday. Handling the Babes with relative ease, the Killjoys rolled to a 244-130 victory and hoisted the Golden Boot, the symbol of WKRDL supremacy, for the first time.
In the consolation final, Castlegar’s Dam City Rollers jumped out to an early lead and never looked back rolling to a 250-156 win over the Rossland Trail Roller Girls. The Girls fell behind early trailing 110-38 at the six minute mark of the first half, however a great skate by the RTRG jammer closed the gap to 119-67 before the whistle blew to end the half. But the Roller Girls could not complete the comeback, as the bigger Dam City Roller blockers stifled any consistent RTRG attack.
The Killjoys meanwhile dominated the season, going undefeated, 3-0. The team ironically consists of a number of former Babes of Brutality skaters.
