Kootenay South Youth Soccer: Lightning strike bronze

The Kootenay South Youth Soccer Association’s U13 Select Lightning Girls soccer took bronze in a Revelstoke tournament on the weekend.

The Kootenay South Youth Soccer Association’s U13 Select Lightning Girls soccer team rallied from an opening game loss to take bronze in a Revelstoke soccer tournament on the weekend.

The Lightning hit the pitch for four games of soccer, but came out a little flat in the first match, losing to a dominant Calgary squad 7-0.

The team regrouped and came back to tie their second match against Williams Lake 1-1, before turning it up a notch in the next game, beating Columbia Titans  4-2.

The Lightning struck again with a 3-0 shutout win over the home team from Revelstoke, which put them in medal contention.

The KSYSA U13 girls team made up of Greater Trail and Castlegar players ended up tied with Williams Lake in points with 23, however, by virtue of less goals against, the Lightning found themselves finishing in third to win the bronze medal.

“The Lightning capped off an exciting season of playing in U14 age groups for tournaments so it was nice to finish the season playing in the U13 division,” said coach Sid Compston in an email.
