Locke medals at nationals

After setting down a brilliant qualifying run, Black Jack skier Julien Locke would settle for silver at the nationals in Whistler Saturday.

There were more top results for Black Jack skiers on the weekend as they finished up the Haywood Ski Nationals at the Callaghan Valley training center in Whistler Sunday.

It was Black Jack skier Julien Locke's time to shine as he qualified top Junior in the 1.6-km classic sprint, but had to settle for silver in the head-to-head final. Locke skied a bristling 3:35.85, the sixth best time overall in the open Mens qualifier, but could not hold off Ezekiel Williams from Gatineau, Que. in the junior final.

Rossland native Rebecca Reid had another strong performance in the U23 Women's sprint placing eighth, while Geoffrey Richards also came eighth in the U23 Men's sprint. David Palmer finished 14th in both the sprint and the 50-km mass start after finishing the top Junior male in the 15-K and 10-K earlier in the week.

In the Junior Boys category, Black Jack's Eric Byram placed fifth in the 15-km masss start Saturday, and seventh in the individual sprint.
