Lucchini gets lone all-star nod

The Major Midget Kootenay Ice will send only one player to the big game.

The Major Midget Kootenay Ice will send only one player to the big game, as BC Hockey announced the rosters Monday for the 2012 Major Midget League All Star Game held in Coquitlam next month.

Forward Jake Lucchini was the only Ice player named to the roster by the selection committee.

In al, 42 players from the 11-team league were chosen for the game during a super-play weekend in Coquitlam, Jan. 13-15.

The 16-year-old Trail native leads the team in scoring with 13 goals and 14 assists over 22 games in what has been a tough year for the Kootenay squad. The Ice have managed just one win and two ties this season.

Players were evaluated on their on-ice and off-ice performance by the All Star Game selection committee.

The BC Hockey Major Midget League was established in 2004 to provide elite level 15, 16 and 17 year olds an opportunity to play within their own age group at a high level and be developed for the next level of hockey.

These teams have an opportunity each year to compete for the National Midget Championship.
