A berth in a provincial championship will be on the line this weekend when the Trail Curling Club hosts the Masters men regional curling playdown.

Four men’s teams will take part in the event featuring teams in the 60+ age category.

Russ Beauchamp’s Beaver Valley rink will be carrying the local colors. Beauchamp’s foursome includes Jack Beard, Gord Bamford and Calvin McKerracher.

They’ll face rinks skipped by defending zone champ Ralph Will from Sparwood, Riondel’s Doug Bothamley and Norman Fahselt of Creston.

The first draw is 7:20 p.m. on Friday when Beauchamp will face Bothamley.

There will be two draws on Saturday, at 10:20 a.m. and 3:20 p.m. Sunday’s two draws are scheduled for 9:20 a.m. and, if necessary, 1:20 p.m.

The playdown will determine one representative from the region for the B.C. Masters Curling Championship set for Qualicum in March.

There is no women’s representative from the East and West Kootenay this year.
