McKenzie returns to UFC octagon Saturday

Cody McKenzie is stepping back into the ring for his second Ultimate Fighting Championship bout on Saturday.

Cody McKenzie is stepping back into the ring for his second Ultimate Fighting Championship bout on Saturday.

The Pride Gym product, who caught the UFC’s attention during its reality show “The Ultimate Fighter,” returns to the octagon in Fort Hood, Tex., in “Fight for the Troops 2.”

McKenzie is fighting in a preliminary bout against 34-year-old Yves Edwards of the Bahamas.

The UFC is reporting that the preliminaries can be viewed on its Facebook page starting at 5 p.m. PT.

The main event bouts will be televised live on Spike TV starting at 6 p.m. PT.

Pride Gym trainer Glen Kalesniko, who will be in McKenzie’s corner on Saturday, said the fight could still make the Spike TV broadcast.

“It can change if the some of the fights are done quick,” he explained. “That’s just like what happened on The Ultimate Fighter finale in December. Cody’s fight was added to televised fights.”

Kalesniko, who was en route to Fort Hood, said he’ll be joined by Jonathan Brookins, The Ultimate Fighter champion, in McKenize’s corner.

Kalesniko will be back home briefly before leading a contingent of Pride Gym fighters to Lethbridge in February. Headlining Rumble in the Cage 42 will be Brad Causey.

Causey will fight in the co-main event against Brad Cardinal in a lightweight title fight.

Other Pride Gym fighters scheduled to step into the ring are Jordan Knippelberg, C.J. Bagg and Chelsea Bronough.

Kalesniko also announced that the annual AM Ford Fight Night “Redemption,” will be held April 16 at the Cominco Arena.
