Minor Hockey Day this Saturday

The Rossland-Trail Minor Hockey Association will be out in full force on Saturday as it celebrates Minor Hockey Day.

The Rossland-Trail Minor Hockey Association will be out in full force on Saturday as it celebrates Minor Hockey Day.

As the originating association for Minor Hockey Week in Canada, the association had originally plan to host the day in January.

However, following the goal of the forefathers to include as many young players as possible, the association opted to move the date to this Saturday in order to accommodate as many local players as possible.

It all begins Saturday morning with the Local 480 pancake breakfast in the Cominco Gym. Served from 7:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., members of the steelworkers union will be flipping jacks for hungry players and parents.

Meanwhile a full day of games will unfold at the Cominco Arena and Kids’ Rink.

The junior and senior novice teams will be on the ice from 8:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at the Kids’ Rink.

At the Cominco Arena, Atom House and Pee Wee House teams will play throughout the day with a Pee Wee Rep Tier 2 playoff game between Rossland-Trail and Nelson.

The playoff game will be Game 2 of the first-to-four series between the two clubs.

Rossland-Trail won the opener last 6-5 Saturday in Nelson. The winner will advance to the provincials in Aldergrove.

Capping off the day will be the annual RTMHA Silent Auction/Dinner and Dance at the Cominco Gym.

Meanwhile, the Midget Rep Tier 2 playoffs are scheduled to start next week in Nelson on Feb. 22 with the series shifting to Trail on Feb. 24. The winner will advance to the provincials in Salmon Arm.

The Bantam Rep Tier 2 provincial berth automatically goes to Rossland-Trail, who will travel to Fort St. John for the B.C. tournament.
