Pride Gym fighters prevail

Medal haul wins team title

Pride Gym excelled again this past week as its contingent of martial arts fighters took home another title.

The gym, known for its Fight Night competitors, won the team trophy at the Kootenay Jui Jitsu Tournament in Castlegar last week.

The team took home 23 individual medals in both junior and adult weight classes to take the team title for the second time in three years.

Competing against fighters from Invermere, Cranbrook, Nelson, Castlegar, Kootenai Martial Arts and Trail Martial Arts clubs, the determined team of Brazilian Jui Jitsu combatants brought home a total of eight gold, eight silver, and seven bronze.

Pride Gym is affiliated with the Rigan Machado school of Brazilian Jui Jitsu from which trainer Cory Colwell recently received his brown belt making him one of the highest ranking instructors in the Kootenays.

The training paid off for the competitors as gold medals went to Gabriel Colwell, Nahum Colwell, Isaiah Colwell, Tyler Mcauly, Del Melnyk, C.J. Bagg, Chelsea Bronaugh and Dan Nilo.

Silver: Ezekiel Colwell, Mary Colwell, Hayley Cross, Yanis Canayer, Hunter Brown, Jordan Knipplegerg, Jimmy Van Horn and Sandy Bagg.

Bronze: Dylan Chambers, Obie Kennedy, Maeva Canayer, Matthew Oliver, Jacob Boyczuk, Savannah Miller and Billy Cameron.
