R-T Pee Wees blank Nelson

The Rossland-Trail Tier 3 Pee Wee reps won a 1-0 victory over the Nelson Pee Wee Leafs.

The Rossland-Trail Tier 3 Pee Wee reps won a heart-stopping 1-0 victory over the Nelson Pee Wee Leafs in the opening game of a first-to-four-points playoff round.

Early in the second period, RTMHA’s Dallas Cox lofted a shot that deflected off a Nelson defender into the Leafs goal to give the Rossland-Trail team a 1-0 lead. And that was all the RTMHA side needed as they shut down the Nelson attack and held on for a thrilling 1-0 victory.

“The game was a defensive gem,” said RTMHA co-coach Jamie Cominotto. “We’ve been practicing all week for this game and the players executed it perfectly.”

Rossland-Trail goalie Brett Watson was unbeatable between the pipes, thwarting Nelson time and time again to earn the shut out.

The winner of this series will play Castlegar for the right to go to the provincial playdowns.

The R-T Pee Wees can wrap it up with a win tonight when Nelson visits Trail. The puck drops at 5:15 p.m. at the Cominco Arena.
