Raid the North Extreme - Local team signs on for extreme race

Raid the North Extreme (RTNX) is excited to have a local team sign up for the event.

Team Kootenay Kaos recently registered for the race with only two months to go until race time.

“Having Team Kootenay Kaos join RTNX is a great boost for our race,” says race director Geoff Langford.“It will showcase the level of talent and athleticism that exists in the region and will encourage spectators to come out and encourage their local team.”

Team Captain Nelson Rocha, of Nelson, spearheaded the drive to establish an experienced squad.

“Teams from all over the world are coming to play here and I just figured we had to have a team from the Kootenays,” he said at the Volunteer Social held last Thursday at the Hume Hotel in Nelson.

Rocha has spent most of his life exploring less-traveled wilderness areas in B.C. and entered a variety of endurance races.

His Kootenay Kaos teammates are: Vince Hempsall of Blewett, Laurel Tench of Castlegar and Sacha Kalabis of Winlaw.

The team is currently looking for sponsors to support the team and assist in the $4,500 entry fee.
