Rebels prove too much for Nitehawks

The Beaver Valley Nitehawks kept it as close as they could but eventually they couldn’t quell the Castlegar Rebels.The Rebels outshot Beaver Valley 43-14 but it took three third-period goals to pace them to a 6-3 win in Game 3 of their Kootenay International Junior Hockey League Murdoch Division final.The win gives Castlegar a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series. Game 4 of the series goes tonight at the Beaver Valley Arena. Even though they were badly outshot in each period, Beaver Valley held a 3-1 lead after one period. The Nitehawks took a 2-0 lead by the midway mark of the opening period on goals from Dan Bishop and Keenan Patershuk.Aaron Brewer’s power play goal with seven minutes left n the frame got the Rebels on the board. But Beaver Valley skated into the first intermission with a two-goal advantage when Taylor Love scored on the power play with two seconds showing on the clock.The Rebels outshot the Hawks 13-4 in the first period and kept up that same pace in the second period outshooting Beaver Valley 17-5 and coming out of the frame back on even terms.Brewer potted his second of the game 90 seconds after the start of the period then Jamie Vlanich evened things up with his marker at the midway point.Castlegar pulled away in the third when Spencer Brodt scored a minute and half into the final frame.At the midway mark it was 5-3 on Tyler Robinson’s goal. And Ryan Reid capped off the night’s scoring with a beautiful marker with five minutes to play.Alex Ross overcame a rough first period to pick up the win between the pipes for Castlegar
