Resolve to make a difference in and around the City of Trail

Best Apocalypse Ever! Even the weather got better.

Best Apocalypse Ever!  Even the weather got better.

Now that we are pretty sure there will be a new year, we should all be looking to make it a great one, for ourselves and others.

Do the easy things, like helping your neighbours clear snow and get groceries if they struggle with those tasks, and the hard ones, like making sure you get just a little healthier - whatever that takes.

Also plan for recreation. Like participating or spectating at the myriad arts and sports and community events around here, or helping out with the organizing and running of said events. Nothing quite so recreational as actually creating a good time around you.

Keep an eye on the Times and other news providers and you will see schedules for most of the events on tap for the rest of the winter and beyond. Ask your friends and neighbours how you can get involved, take part in our community.

There will be games and races at our ski hills, arenas, pools and parks all year, including provincial playoffs like the senior curling in Trail.

There is so much out there these days, finding a way to enjoy and/or  get behind something in the community should be easy. Make the effort and I guarantee it will make the year worthwhile.

•The Nitehawks, “new season,” starts.tonight and one hopes the team hasn’t indulged in much deconditioning behaviour because it looks like the division title could come down to games between Beaver Valley and Castlegar, of which their are two this weekend.

Nelson is still well in that title mix, which is why the Murdoch Division is the strongest in the KIJHL, but it is the Nitehawks and Rebels that are on the best tears (BV 7-1, Castlegar 3-1-1) right now.

I’m sure I will see you next year, somewhere in our community.

Happy New Year.
