In High School basketball, the Rossland Secondary School senior girls team came home victorious from a tournament in Fernie on the weekend.

In High School basketball action, the Rossland Secondary School senior girls team came home victorious from a tournament in Fernie on the weekend.

The squad went undefeated in the Fernie Falcon Griz Classic Basketball Tournament.

The team downed Hanna, AB. 75  to 55, then trounced Sparwood 86-31 before winning their final game in convincing fashion against Fernie 75 - 43 to capture the Classic

J. L. Crowe teams also hit the hard courts this weekend as the Hawks host it’s Junior Basketball tournament and the senior boys team heads to Kimberley to take on East Kootenay teams.

The junior boys begin play Friday, tipping off against Mt. Sentinel at noon, then Osoyoos at 6 p.m.

The six team tournament also includes Grand Forks, Stanley Humphries from Castlegar, and Nelson’s L. V. Rogers. After the round robin Friday, the teams will playoff on Saturday witht the final game slated for 1 p.m.

The senior boys trip to Kimberley will see them compete in an eight-team tournament against some of the best AA schools in the Kootenays.

“It will be our only test before the Zone playdowns, to see how we stack up against East Kootenay teams,” said coach Dylan Fitzpatrick.

The tournament includes teams from Kimberley, Creston, Fernie, Mt. Sentinel, Invermere, Golden and Sparwood.
